Hingwastak (also called Hingvashtaka, Hingvastak) is made up of the terms 'Hingu' (Asafoetida) and Ashtaka (eight) and the recipe is a combination of Hing and seven other herbs. Hingwastak is traditionally prescribed to compensate for excessive Vata, especially in the digestive tract.
Hingwatak balances Vata and Kapha, has a heating effect and thus increases Pitta.

Im Ayurveda gilt Hingwastak (also Hingvas, Hingwashtak) Churna as a very useful herbal powder mixture to treat indigestion. So it can be taken with warm water or used for cooking. 

Hingu means - Asa foetida, which is the main ingredient of Hingwastak Churna. Asa Fötida goes well with lentils, chickpeas, potato curries, vegetable curries, cauliflower, kale and spinach dishes, tomato sauce, patties, pumpkin soup and potato soup, chutneys or relishes.

Asa Fötida (Asant) comes mainly from the rhizomes of various species of ferula (sticky herb) or giant fennel. Depending on the species, ferula are two to four meters high. The stems are soft inside, the leaves are finely toothed and the yellow flowers grow in clusters. Shortly before flowering, the stalks are cut off at the root and a milky liquid immediately escapes, which dries into a rubber-like mass. The rubber is scraped off and further cuts follow, until after about three months the root is no longer there. The dried gum resin of the asafoetida was asa foetida an integral part of the medicinal treasury in Europe, in Persinen, the Middle East and India for centuries.
