The sleeping berry (Indian Ashwagandha) is a type of plant from the nightshade family and is up to 2 m high, has oval leaves and reddish balloon-like flowers. The cultivation of the medicinal plant Ashwagandhandha is especially widespread in the western areas of India. It is also commonly known as "Indian ginseng" because Ashwagandha has a similar place in Ayurvedic herbal medicine (Dravyaguna) to ginseng in Chinese medicine. Ashwagandha is one of the most frequently used drugs in Ayurvedic medicine, primarily because of its versatile effects and very good tolerability.
