Ayurvedic properties
Consumption is not recommended for pregnant women! Store out of reach of children in a cool, dark place.
Many people associate Bhumi Amalaki immediately with Amalaki, probably the most well-known fruit in Ayurveda. However, it is important to emphasize that Bhumi Amalaki and Amalaki, often referred to as Amla, are fundamentally different plants. Here we are comparing a small plant with a large tree, between which there is no close relationship. This confusion arises because Bhumi Amalaki bears numerous tiny fruits that look similar to the amalaki fruits.
In Ayurveda, Bhumi Amalaki is known as Yakrit Rasayana In Sanskrit, one comes across the name Dhatri, a term that shows the great appreciation for this plant. Dhatri stands for Mother Earth and symbolizes health and peace.
Botanically speaking, the name Bhumi Amalaki is not clear, as it is used for both Phyllanthus niruri and Phyllanthus amarus. However, Ayurvedic experts, also known as Vaidyas, refer to Bhumi Amalaki almost exclusively as the smaller species, Phyllanthus niruri. This is often referred to as the real Ayurvedic Bhumi Amla.
Ayurvedic practice recommends taking Bhumi Amalaki along with coriander and punarnava.
In the ancient Ayurvedic work Bhava Prakash, Bhumi Amalaki is described as a Kapha-reducing herb, which may seem surprising at first, as the herb has cooling properties that should typically increase Kapha. The reason for this effect is that Bhumi Amalaki indirectly increases Agni, the bioenergetic fire, and thus burns excess Kapha.
Typically, Bhumi Amla is mixed with coriander and then boiled in water. It is often taken in combination with Punarnava to maximize the health benefits.
